#3 2011/12
December 13th 2011

Another busy weekend for the Surf Club saw the club in competition at Torquay on Saturday and another great turn out of Nippers on Sunday. The boat crews performed well at Torquay with both the Mens and Womens crews making the semi finals and the Mens denied a spot in the final only when two crews from each semi went through, rather than the usual three.   Club member Mark Plant competed in several individual events and performed strongly in placing 5th of 16 in the Open Ski and 6th of 22 in the Open Board events. Mark has been training a development squad of several younger members, those too old for Nippers, over the last few months. His charges are very keen and have even been rising at 6am on Saturdays to take part in early morning training sessions!  The squad are also keen to compete but unfortunately on Saturday there were some scheduling issues at Torquay which prevented the Port Fairy youngsters from doing so.

Sunday saw another crowd of enthusiastic Nippers take to the East Beach in what turned out to be a much better day than had been forecast. The second requalification session for those club members holding Bronze Medallions and other LSV awards was held at the same time as Nippers so thanks to all those club members and parents that assisted while some of us were busy with the “requal”.

A local Nippers carnival will be held his Saturday the 17th at Warrnambool and Port Fairy will have a number of youngsters competing – anyone who would like to take part but hasn’t put their name down as yet should contact the club during the week.

Nippers is on again this Sunday the 18th but as both Christmas and New Years Day fall on a Sunday this year there will be no Nippers on those days. After this Sunday the next Nippers session will be held on Tuesday the 3rd of January at 10:30am, as part of our extended Summer program. Nippers sessions will be held on Tuesday-Thursday-Sunday in the 1st two weeks of January and as usual there should be lots of young holiday makers joining in with our local Nippers.
